As a young graduate, I embarked on a career in the corporate sector, working in sales and marketing. While the experience was both rewarding and invaluable, giving me a solid understanding of the business world, I soon realised that something was missing. Having graduated with a BDrama from Stellenbosch University and adding to it an honours degree specialising in Media Studies, my passions lay in the creative. I longed to return to the world of the performing arts and immerse myself in creativity – something I realised is an integral part of who I am.

In early 2010, a friend from university who was teaching Helen O’Grady Drama, introduced me to the opportunity to lead the Cape Town North and Winelands Academy. With both my parents having dedicated their careers to education, teaching felt like a natural step for me. It was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for drama, my love of teaching, and the business experience I had gained in the corporate world. And in June 2010, I proudly became the franchisee and principal of the Helen O’Grady Cape Town North and Winelands Academy.

From the very beginning, my vision has been about more than teaching drama. I believe every child deserves to feel confident, heard and valued, and I am passionate about creating a safe and supportive environment where students can discover their unique voice and realise what they are capable of. Through our classes, I help children and teens develop confidence, as well as communication and performance skills—the essential building blocks that empower them to become the very best version of themselves. These life skills extend far beyond the stage, equipping young people with the resilience, self-belief and confidence to thrive at school, in their relationships and throughout their lives.

Backed by more than 40 years of research and experience, our curriculum focuses on building confidence and communication skills, with personal growth always taking priority over perfection. In my journey with Helen O’Grady Drama, it has been a privilege to watch thousands of young people grow in confidence and find their voice. Knowing that our academy helps shape confident, compassionate and capable young people continues to inspire me every day.
