For many years, Helen O’Grady worked as a teacher, professional actress and producer/presenter of children's television shows. The more she worked with children, the more she became aware of the need for a self-development programme which would increase confidence and build personality.

The first Helen O'Grady Drama Academy began in Perth, Australia, in 1979.
