Helen O’Grady Drama Academy - South Africa’s leader in affordable drama classes for all ages. Unleash confidence and creativity!
The Helen O’Grady Drama System consists of a 15-year cycle of lesson plans and drama curriculum to cover a child’s development between the ages of 3 and 18 years. All students are made to feel very welcome at Academy classes and their development is carefully nurtured and encouraged. All our students, from the shy to the outgoing, can develop at their own pace, with plenty of positive encouragement. In addition to this, many lasting friendships are built during the weekly sessions!
KINDY DRAMA
Preprimary: 3-5 year olds
Kindy Drama caters for children in pre-primary school. The Kindy programme empowers young children by developing language, pronunciation, self-expression and other formative skills. For more details on the curriculum, click here.
LOWER PRIMARY
5-9 year olds
Children attend these classes once a week and are involved in a series of fun-filled learning activities. Children who mix well with others find it easier to make friends and adjust to new situations. They find school an enjoyable adventure! Our confidence-building programme helps to give them the skills to be participants in all aspects of their lives, able to ask questions, seek answers and share information with others. UPPER PRIMARY
9-13 year olds
This is a more advanced level than our Lower Primary classes. The confident, articulate child finds it easier to make friends, accept new challenges and explore new directions. YOUTH THEATRE
13-18 year olds
Whilst the self-development aspects of the primary courses continue, Youth Theatre is more theatre arts orientated. Our very successful Youth Theatre programme is open to all students attending high school. We attract a wide range of young people, from those seeking to increase their confidence and speaking ability, to those hoping to pursue a career in the theatre. ADULT CLASSES
19+ Offered in select locations only
In today's world, people who can communicate effectively are the ones who will achieve success in their social and professional lives. The skills learnt in these classes will help all adults to become articulate speakers, with excellent presentation skills. For more details on the curriculum, click here.
AT ALL OUR CLASSES
Throughout our programme, there is a strong emphasis on language development. From the very beginning, students are encouraged to express themselves in whole sentences. Multiple sentence flow is encouraged in all language activities! Every facet of our curriculum is designed to stimulate language development and verbal communication so that students become more confident in the use of expressive, spoken language.
