No special clothing is needed.  It is best for our students to wear casual, comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely.  Some students come to lessons straight from school and wear their uniform or sports clothes.

Most students take to the lessons straight away because they are fun and tap into children’s natural desire to play.  We recommend that parents encourage their children to attend for at least four weeks before opting out.  This is to give children the opportunity to make friends and become accustomed to the new experience.  Children who lack confidence often need this settling in period.  The benefits will be long lasting.

Each lesson is carefully planned.  Students can enrol at any time, and they will not feel as though they have missed a significant portion of curriculum.  Students will also never repeat a lesson regardless of when they join us.  We welcome new students at any point during the year and even mid-term.  Should a student join during a term, a pro rata fee will be worked out.

Definitely!  Our classes are designed to increase confidence and self-esteem.  Parents and teachers comment on how much more confident our students become after attending our classes.  Our teachers are supportive and encouraging, and the environment in each class is fun and unintimidating.

Participating in a drama lesson is very different from watching.  We offer a trial lesson to anyone who would like to see what our programme is like.  We encourage all students to become actively involved in the lesson to experience the Helen O’Grady Drama System firsthand.

We are sensitive to the fact that some of our students struggle with shyness.  For this reason, having adult spectators in the class can hamper the learning process.  We encourage parents to drop and go, and we invite family and friends to attend our midyear Presentation Day to see what we do in our lessons.  Having said that, we usually teach with the doors to our venues open.  This way, parents may remain out of sight and eavesdrop to hear how their children’s lessons are progressing!

Costuming for our Year End Productions is always simple.  We pride ourselves on the fact that parents are not required to buy or make anything special.  Everything our students need can be sourced at home or borrowed from family and friends.  Should certain characters need anything specific, the Academy will supply this.

Our classes are designed to develop language.  We improvise with speech throughout the lesson and encourage the students to explore what they can do with language.  Speech training is a specific part of the lesson dedicated to helping the students to develop good speech habits.  However, it should be noted that our speech training cannot replace speech therapy.

Our classes are suitable for children of all abilities, and no experience is necessary to join our classes.

We award achievement certificates, medals and trophies to all students who have committed to the classes for a year or more.  There are no exams in our programme.

Our drama classes are different from other traditional speech and drama classes.  Lessons are dynamic and fast-paced.  We do different activities each week and we do not work for months on repetitive memorisation of lines.
