I started my journey with Helen O’Grady Drama Academy as a teacher, working under other Principals, because I believe in the power of developmental drama.

As I continued teaching the programme, I knew that I wanted to play a bigger role within the Academy. A role where I could grow professionally while building something meaningful in my own community. The opportunity came for me to run my own Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, which gave me the opportunity to pursue a career I love while creating the flexibility to be a present, work-from-home mum to my children. What a perfect fit!

Growing up in Durban, I discovered my love for the dramatic arts from a young age. I went on to study Drama at the Durban University of Technology before furthering my training in physical theatre, singing and in education. These experiences, together with my years of teaching through Helen O’Grady Drama Academy in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, have shaped the way I teach and lead today. For me, drama has never been about creating performers. It’s about helping children develop confidence, communication skills, creativity and resilience that they carry with them throughout life.

As Principal of the West Coast branch, my greatest passion is creating a space where every child feels seen, encouraged and empowered to find their voice. Watching a shy child grow into a confident communicator, or seeing a student discover strengths they never knew they had, is why I do what I do. I truly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to develop the confidence to face life’s challenges, and that through developmental drama, so much is possible.
